Customer Success Story: M.T. Patalya – Kandla
Marine Forte Enterprises recently completed a marine electronics service attendance onboard M.T. Patalya at Kandla, covering both navigation radar and gyro systems.
The attendance was carried out on 16 June 2026, with the work focused on servicing two Sperry Marine Navigat MK1 gyros and carrying out service work on the vessel's Sperry Marine BME X-band and S-band radars.
The Service Requirement
The scope included:
Annual servicing of two Sperry Marine Navigat MK1 gyros
Inspection and servicing of the vessel's X-band and S-band radars
Replacement of both radar magnetrons
Testing and verification of equipment performance following the service work.
Gyro Servicing
Marine Forte's attending engineer boarded the vessel and checked the parameters of Gyro No. 1 before carrying out the annual service.
The gyro was switched off and allowed to stabilise before the container was removed and the annual servicing was carried out using OEM service kits. Following servicing, the gyro was switched on and its operating parameters were checked.
The same procedure was subsequently carried out on Gyro No. 2. After both gyros had settled, the associated equipment was checked to confirm that it was following the gyro heading correctly. The ship's staff verified the results.
Radar Service and Magnetron Replacement
The vessel's Sperry Marine BME X-band and S-band radars were inspected and transmission checks were carried out.
The radar systems were found to be transmitting properly during the inspection. Further performance and BIST checks were carried out, with the parameters found normal.
Both radar magnetrons were then replaced using the applicable OEM procedure. Following replacement, the radars were allowed to warm up before transmission tests were performed across the required ranges.
The radars produced good echoes and the PM checks were satisfactory. The operation of the equipment was subsequently demonstrated to the ship's staff.
Successful Completion
Following completion of the service work:
Both Sperry Marine Navigat MK1 gyros were confirmed working satisfactorily.
Both Sperry Marine BME X-band and S-band radars were tested and found working satisfactorily.
The gyro heading was verified against the associated equipment with the ship's staff.
The radar magnetron replacements were successfully completed.
